"Editable" is doing a lot of work in that phrase

Search for an image-to-PowerPoint converter and most of what comes back puts your JPG on a blank slide, full bleed, and hands you a .pptx. The file opens in PowerPoint. Nothing in it can be edited. Technically nobody lied.

What people mean by editable is that the title is a text box they can retype, the chart labels are text they can correct, and the coloured panel behind the heading is a shape they can recolour. That requires rebuilding the slide rather than embedding it.

The way that is done here: the layout is parsed to find what is on the page and where, then every box, font size, weight, colour, and alignment is measured from your own pixels. The background is rebuilt with the lettering erased, so retyping a heading does not leave a hole where the old one was.

How is this different from putting the image on a slide?

The text comes back as PowerPoint text boxes you can retype, and the panels as shapes you can restyle. The picture is not embedded whole — the background is rebuilt with the writing removed.

Does the typeface come back?

Size, weight, colour, and alignment are measured from the image. The typeface itself is not recovered, so text is set in a stand-in; one block at a time can be redrawn in the slide's own lettering.

What happens to photos and charts?

Photographs stay as they are. A chart comes back as its labels and its plate rather than as a live PowerPoint chart object — you can retype the labels, not re-bind the data.
