What "same font" actually means here

There are two different things people mean by keeping the font, and they are worth telling apart before you pick a tool.

The common one is font matching: the tool identifies something close in a font library and retypes your words in it. That works until the original is a typeface nobody has, or has been stretched, tracked, or given an outline — and then the new words are visibly a different set of letters sitting where the old ones were.

The other is redrawing the letters that are already there. This flow measures size, weight, colour, and alignment from your own pixels, and one region at a time can be redrawn in the page's own lettering rather than in a substitute. It is not free and it is not instant, so it is done per region, on the lines where it actually matters.

Where the words are set in ordinary type, the stand-in font is usually indistinguishable and there is no reason to spend a redraw on it. Save it for the headline.

Questions

Is the typeface identified?

No, and that is deliberate — identifying a face you do not own does not help you set type in it. What is measured is how the existing letters look, and the redraw works from that.

When is the stand-in font good enough?

Most of the time, for ordinary body and UI type. The difference shows on display faces, heavy tracking, outlines, and anything with a texture on it.

Does redrawing change anything else?

No. Only the region you asked for is taken back; the rest of the image is the original, pixel for pixel.
